Philosophy

Justice Stras believes that judges should respect the will of the people of Minnesota, as expressed through Minnesota’s Constitution and the laws passed by our elected representatives. Judges should faithfully interpret and apply the Constitution and laws passed under the political process, not follow their own political leanings or personal preferences. Justice Stras also believes that judges should treat each other and every person in the courts with dignity and respect. Justice Stras’s philosophy results in unbiased, even-handed justice for all, without favor toward any political party, power broker, or special-interest group.
